Day 13: Luke 20-24 Opening Reflection
Authority
Again, similar to being rich or poor- Authority is a perception. We all have the authority to do what we want because of free-will: authority to question, to kill, to proclaim, to be a trader, to deny who we are, and/or whatever else we want.
The question is, however, who gave you this authority? Your ancestors have suffered through grueling and trying conditions to allow us to have authority. As African Americans, especially, you can identify with the hardships our slave ancestors and civil rights leaders had to endure to allow us to have the authority that we have today. And before them there were other ancestors that paved a foundation for the latter more recent ancestors. However, JESUS gave us our ultimate freedom by his death.
Because of Jesus, contrary to what we think, we have a responsibility to Jesus. Is your authority backed by God or by man?
Jesus says the one with the most authority is the one who serves unconditionally. Jesus was the ultimate servant, some may find it ironic and some may not, therefore Jesus’ authority reigns forever…
